St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center Media Information

A two-story boarding house in Pueblo was converted into St. Mary’s Hospital by the Sisters of Charity in 1882. The hospital’s excellent reputation led the Colorado Fuel & Iron Company to transfer ownership of its own Corwin Hospital to the sisters in the late 1940s. St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center was formed shortly thereafter. Today, the hospital continues its legacy of compassionate, outstanding care.

St. Mary-Corwin Posts ER Wait Times

Know Before You Go: St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center Rolls Out Emergency Room Wait Times Online and on Smartphone App

PUEBLO, CO --- When you are faced with an emergency, uncertain about what is making you ill, or whether or not you may have a broken bone, the last thing you want to worry about is how long you might have to wait to be treated in a busy emergency room (ER).

If you are heading to the ER at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, you can now know in advance how soon you can be seen by a doctor. There are two ways to check the ER wait time at the hospital.

First, check online at stmarycorwin.org and click on the “ER Wait Times” on the home page; or go to itriagehealth.com and enter Pueblo, CO and Emergency Department the hit the “Find a Provider” button.

The second way to check ER wait times is by downloading the free iTriage® app on your smartphone and searching for St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center under facilities and then emergency department.

“St. Mary-Corwin’s emergency department understands how important it is for patients to see a physician quickly,” commented Patrick Stanifer, Director of Emergency Services. “Our expert staff is committed to assuring our patients that they will be evaluated by one of our skilled medical professionals in the shortest time possible.”  St. Mary-Corwin has implemented a streamlined triage process which allows patients to receive the care they need as efficiently as possible. “We are committed to delivering the quickest, highest quality emergency care to our patients in southern Colorado,” added Stanifer.

St. Mary-Corwin's unique service lets you quickly check our ER wait times from your computer or phone. St. Mary-Corwin is the first hospital in southern Colorado to post our ER wait times online. The ER wait times are updated every 15 minutes, and are calculated by averaging the previous hour’s “door to doc” time. An ER wait time is defined as the time the patient checks in at the front desk until the time that patient is greeted by a qualified, assigned medical professional. Patients are triaged upon arrival and seen in priority order based on presenting complaints and reason for visit. A qualified medical professional is defined as a Doctor of Medicine (MD), a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), a Physician’s Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP).

St. Mary-Corwin joins a growing number of hospitals across the country using this interactive technology that gives instant access to information about the hospital, including specialties offered, location maps, and ER wait times. The technology allows consumers to evaluate symptoms, learn about possible causes and find appropriate locations for treatment.

It is important for anyone experiencing a life-threatening emergency to call 911 immediately. Do not check the wait time and do not drive yourself to an emergency room. Emergency medical transport will ensure that a patient receives immediate treatment on their way to the hospital and that they arrive at the appropriate place to be treated as needed.
